Wilma Tressie Carter Thompson Chandler 95 of Homer, Ga. passed away April 3, 2022. She was born August 10, 1926 in Banks County to the late Willie Darnell and Mamie Wood Carter. Wilma was preceded in death by her first husband of fifty years George H. Thompson Sr., and her second husband Horace Grady Chandler of almost 16 years. She was also preceded in death by her sister Mary Carter Broome.
Survivors include daughter Mary Elaine Thompson of Homer and a son George H. (Janelle Brantley) Thompson Jr. of Stockbridge, Ga. 2 Granddaughters Georgia Oliver of Grafton, N.Y. and Holly Sene of Columbus, Ga. 1 Great Granddaughter Savannah Reno and 4 Great Grandsons Alex Oliver, Lathaniel Driver, Micha Driver and Tristan Driver. 2 Great Great Grandchildren and a number of loved nieces and nephews.
She attended the Homer United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wilma received her Master Cosmetologist License in 1950 from Paris Beauty School in Savannah, Ga. She attended Savannah Tech. in 1970 with focus on Accounting 1 and Accounting 2 followed in 1972 with studies at Atlanta Tech in Cost Accounting.
She was a bookkeeper for several years with the "Visiting Nurse Association", of Atlanta, Ga. She later was a para professional accountant for 10 years with Northeast Georgia Mental Health for Jackson County, Madison County and Clarke County. She retired in June of 1997.
She was Past Worthy Matron of Savannah Chapter # 52 Order of Eastern Star State of Georgia. She was a Charter Member and Past Worthy Matron of Phi Delta Chapter # 542 Order of the Eastern Star of Georgia 1987-1988. She was a member of the Rotarian Club, Homer, Ga. and a Charter member of the Banks County AARP # 3276.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11 AM from the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Payne and Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Burial will be in the Banks County Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Collins officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Thursday Morning from 9:30 until the funeral Hour.
