Tomiko Bagwell

Tomiko Bagwell of Commerce, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026 at MUSC medical center in Columbia, South Carolina. A celebration of her life will take place at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce, Georgia on Tuesday, August 25 at 11:00 AM.

 Born in Kyushu, Japan, Tomiko came to the United States with her husband Homer and son William in 1957. In addition to working for many years at Blue Bell textile plant in Commerce, Tomiko also spent her time caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her beloved Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs, playing countless Solitaire and Mahjong games on her computer, and tending to her sprawling garden. She was happiest when preparing a massive meal for others, no matter how many people were there to eat. 

Tomiko was preceded in death by her husband Homer as well as her children William, Brenda, and Robert. She is survived by her children Teresa Williams (Rick) and Tina Wooten (Marvin), grandchildren Robert, Joshua, Daniel, Tabitha, Jordan, Rachel, and Jessica, and great-grandchildren Jennifer, Jaden, Latham, Grace, Claudia, Brandon, Benjamin, and Jackson. 

She will be remembered for her never-ending energy and enthusiasm, her endearing Bagwell stubbornness, and her fierce love for her family.

 Friends and family are invited to Ivie Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 25. Viewing and visitation will take place from 9-11 AM with the service at 11 AM in the chapel. A family graveside interment service will follow immediately afterward at Howington Cemetery in Nicholson. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in Tomiko’s memory through A Living Tribute or the Arbor Day Foundation.
