Sybil (Gowder) Stowe

Sybil Gowder Stowe, age 96 of Commerce, GA passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Born on March 20, 1928 in Homer, GA, Mrs. Stowe was the daughter of the late John and Nellie Mae Ward Gowder. She was the widow of Hugh “Dorsey” Stowe, retired from Mead Paper in Atlanta, and was preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Gowder; sisters, Hazel Gowder Strickland, Winnie Gowder Lewallen, Janie Gowder O’Kelly, Marion Gowder Hubbard, and Lilly Gowder White.

Mrs. Stowe graduated from Banks County in 1945. She and Dorsey resided in Atlanta, GA until their retirement. Sybil loved to play piano, square dance, and travel.

Survivors include nieces, Patsy Stewart, Joan Morris, Judy Lewallen Marlow, Linda O’Kelley; nephew, Trent Strickland; and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Ivie Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 2 pm until the funeral hour Sunday at the funeral home.
