Mrs. Sonja Carol (Sunny) Jones Pritchard, age 87, of Maysville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. James A. Pritchard, III (Jim) in Maysville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4859 Mt. Olive Road, Commerce, Georgia. The family will receive friends at 10 am and the funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow at the Pritchard Family Cemetery, 120 Ridgeback Drive, Maysville, Georgia.
Sunny was born September 29,1938, to parents Collis S. Jones and Nina Mae Gowen Jones in Atlanta, Georgia. They moved shortly thereafter to Albany, Georgia, where she grew up and graduated from Albany High School in 1957. She married her sweetheart, James A. Pritchard, Jr., in 1958 in Albany. Jim was her only child, he was born in Camilla, Georgia in 1959. Over the years, her small family moved all over the south and she and her husband ended up in Lilburn, Georgia. Her husband died in 1992 and she immediately moved in with Jim and his family until she passed away.
She was known by her family as “Doodle”, she was quick to laugh, loved gathering with family to watch football, and brought a bright, “sunny” energy into every room she entered. Whether cheering from the stands at a grandchild's game or beaming with pride at a graduation, she showed up for the people she loved — always thinking of others before herself.
Beyond her devotion to family, Sunny lived life with boundless enthusiasm and joy. An avid traveler, she explored the world with the people she loved most, journeying across the US and Europe, the Caribbean, Guatemala, Hawaii, and Israel, always eager for the next adventure. She had a fun, spirited side too — she loved sports cars and never shied away from driving fast. Her heart, though, was in giving back: she dedicated ten years as a volunteer for the Atlanta Classic Foundation at the BellSouth Classic Golf Tournament, benefiting Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. She also volunteered for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and various hospital gift shops over the years. In 2006-2008, she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sunny is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Jim Pritchard and Traci Eilers Pritchard of Maysville, Georgia; granddaughter, Sarah Pritchard of Atlanta; grandson and wife, James Pritchard and Niki Hitchens Pritchard and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Thomas, and Olivia Pritchard, of Maysville; grandson and fiancé, Zachary Pritchard and Paige Fallon of Maysville; and brother, George Jones of Maysville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Collis S. Jones, Jr.; sister, Joyce Jones Evans; and her granddaughter, Kristen Leigh Pritchard.
