Shirley Susan Pittman Kingsolver, a devoted homemaker and cherished grandmother, passed away on May 6, 2026, in Hull, Georgia. Born on April 25, 1947, in Williamsburg, Virginia, Susan lived a life changed by Jesus with a love of her family, pets and the beautiful gardens she created around her home.
Susan is survived by her son, Billy DeCastro and her grandchildren: Nathan (Brittany) Bishop, Jason Booth, Tabitha (Rodel) Rutger, Karlee (Cory) Swain, Jaimee and Jessica DeCastro. Her love extended through to the next generation with 16 great- grandchildren who will always remember her gentle spirit and smile as she puttered around her yard.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Pitman, her daughter Tina Bishop and her beloved husband, Glenn Kingsolver. Their memories remain a treasured part of her story and the foundation upon which her family was built.
Throughout her life she was an advocate for stray animals in the community and was a published author. She embraced her role as homemaker with grace and dedication, creating a nurturing environment filled with love and unwavering support of those animals she had rescued. Her presence in the lives of her family and friends was a source of comfort and inspiration as she frequently recited the Serinity Prayer to provide strength during life’s ups and downs.
The family honors Shirley Susan Kingsolver’s memory, grateful for the many years they shared and the countless ways she influenced their lives. Her legacy lives on through the love and bonds she nurtured with each of them.
A cremation will be taking place per the deceased wishes.
