It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce Sherrard E. (Shep) White, 77, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather peacefully passed away on September 24, 2025 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away at home on his beloved White House Farm surrounded by his loving family.
Sherrard was born in Atlanta, GA on May 24, 1948 to Rachel R. White and the late Roy C. (Jack) White. He was raised in the Klondike community of Lithonia, GA. He graduated from Lithonia High School in 1966. After high school he entered the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. After returning from the military, he resumed his work at the City of Decatur Fire Department, where he began as a fire fighter. He worked his way through the Fire Department ranks becoming Chief. Sherrard retired after 35 years with the City of Decatur as Director of Public Safety. In his career he served in many positions with the GA Firemen Association, DeKalb Police Chiefs, and the International Police Chief Association.
Sherrard was a founding member of the American Street Rodders. He spent many days with his Street Rodder friends showing his 1934 Canary Yellow Ford. This resulted in a nickname of “Tweety.” He was also a very dedicated member of the Marine Corps League, Athens. Once a Marine, always a Marine. He loved worshipping and serving the Lord with his church family at Blacks Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Brenda Hulsey White. Daughters, Amy Staud and Kimberly Sauls (Josh). Grandchildren, Brittany Staud, A.J. Staud (Hailey), Bailey Hill (Steve, Jr.), Leland Sauls, Kaleigh Sauls. Great grandchildren, Olivia Staud, Trey Hill, Zander and Zoey Stuad. Sister, Sheila White; Brother-in-law, Charles Hulsey, Aunts Martha Mann, Connie Potts, uncle John White, and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, Sept. 26, 2025 at Ivie Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Rising officiating. Burial will follow at Blacks Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12 PM until the funeral hour Friday at the funeral home.
Flowers are appreciated. Donations in Sherrard’s memory can be made to Blacks Creek Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund; Gideons; or St. Judes Children Hospital.
