Nancy "Judy" Rice

Nancy "Judy" Yarbrough Rice, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on May 10, 2026, in Athens, Georgia. Born on May 28, 1939, in Maysville, Georgia, Judy lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and steadfast commitment to family and service.

Judy devoted many years to education, working as a school secretary at Commerce Elementary School before retiring. Her work touched countless lives, and she was known for her kindness, professionalism, and the genuine care she extended to students, parents, and colleagues alike. Away from her professional life, she was an active and devoted member of Stone Path Church in Maysville, Georgia, where her faith and community involvement were central to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoke S. and Leo Powell Yarbrough; her husband of 62 years, Jerry Rice; her brothers, Hoke Yarbrough, Jr. and Joseph Yarbrough; and her sister, Helen Thrailkill. Their memories and legacies remain a poignant part of her story.

Judy leaves behind her daughters Jill Rice, Jan (Joey) Millwood, and Joy (Scott) Tolbert, who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. She was a cherished grandmother to Andrew (Tiffany) Millwood, Morgan (Jason) Gardner, Rachael (Ashton) Ciunowicz, Abigail Tolbert, and Ivy Tolbert; and great-grandchildren, Maren Millwood, Harper Millwood, and Everett Ciunowicz. Her family also includes several nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

Services in honor of Nancy "Judy" Yarbrough Rice will begin with a visitation on May 23, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Jackson Memorial Gardens, 6825 Jefferson Road, Commerce, GA, beginning at 2:00 PM with Rev. Carey Strickland officiating.
