Mary Jeanette Dorsey

Mary Jeanette Dorsey, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Commerce, Georgia community, passed away on December 14, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 15, 1934, in Commerce, she dedicated her life to her family and friends and left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She was the daughter of Fred and Clara Pruitt Beck, and she grew up in a loving household where she cultivated the values of compassion and resilience that would guide her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edward Dorsey Sr., and her cherished son, David Dorsey. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Elizabeth Waldrop, Mavis Barrett, and Ann Baker, all of whom she held dear in her heart.

She is survived by her loving sons, Edward Dorsey Jr. and Donald Dorsey, along with her daughters, Linda Pressley and Carrie Faye Saxon. Additionally, Mary Jeanette was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and the delighted great-grandmother of seventeen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.

Mary Jeanette's legacy is characterized by her nurturing spirit and her unwavering support for her family. She was a constant source of love, wisdom, and encouragement, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among her loved ones. Her laughter could light up a room, and her warmth radiated to all around her.

The family invites all who knew and loved her to celebrate her life and legacy. A visitation will be held on December 16, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. She will then be interred at Blacks Creek Baptist Church, starting at 1:30 PM, located at 3754 Blacks Creek Church Road, Commerce, GA.
