Margaret Etta Smith

Margaret Etta Smith, born July 15, 1935, in Desert, Texas, peacefully passed away on August 10, 2026, in Maysville, Georgia. Her 91 years were marked by steadfast love for her family and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.

Margaret was the cherished daughter of Jewel M. Shelton and Mary Christine Red Shelton. Growing up in Desert, Texas, she shared her formative years with her siblings, many of whom have preceded her in passing, including her brothers Lloyd Dean Shelton and Doyle Weldon Shelton.

Margaret built a loving home alongside her late husband, Truman Lee Smith. Together, they created a legacy of devotion, resilience, and unwavering support for one another. Margaret was a mother whose heart knew no bounds. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving daughter, Rhonda Case. She was preceded in death by her children Teddy Lee Smith, Ricky Wayne Smith, and Donna Christine Beard, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother filled her later years with pride and happiness. She is survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren,several nieces and nephews, each of whom carry her memory forward in their own lives. Margaret experienced the sorrow of losing her granddaughter, Kimberly Dale, whose spirit now joins her in rest.

Family was at the center of Margaret’s life. Her sister, Lequita Ingram, survives her and continues to hold dear the bond they shared. Margaret’s days were enriched by the presence of her relatives, and she was the foundation of many cherished memories.

Margaret Etta Smith’s legacy is marked by her enduring love, generosity, and commitment to her family. Those who knew her will remember her dignified nature, gentle strength, and the example she set through her life well-lived. She was a guiding light to her loved ones and a source of comfort and wisdom in times of need.
