Loy Reed, born on July 30, 1947, in Murryville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in Gainesville, Georgia. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a respected member of his community.
Loy was known for his unwavering commitment to his career as a transit bus driver for Jackson County, where he was a familiar face and a reliable source of support for many residents. His work ethic and dedication exemplified his character, marking him as someone who took immense pride in serving others.
In addition to his career, Loy also made significant contributions to his community beyond the bus driver's seat. He served as an assistant pastor at various churches, embodying his faith through acts of service and guidance. As a devoted member of Redeemed Baptist Church, he found joy and purpose in contributing to the spiritual lives of his fellow parishioners.
Loy is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Whitlow Reed, along with his daughters, Jessica (John) Davis and Miranda (Brad) Lipford. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Sherri (Nick) Hunsinger, Kelli Blalock, Johnathan Blalock, Vin Davis, and Harleigh Davis, who will forever remember his love and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilford and Rosa Holland Reed, and his son, Mitchell Wallace. The void left by his passing will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in their hearts.
Visitation will be held on January 14, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA 30529. A funeral service will take place on January 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Redeemed Baptist Church, located at 805 B Wilson Road, Commerce, GA 30529 with Pastor Aaron Calvert and Pastor Robby Ledford officiating. The body will lie in state at 1:30 PM until the funeral hour at the church. Burial will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery.
