John "Eddie" Hunter went home to his Lord and Savior on August 31, 2026, at his home.
Eddie was born May 5, 1959, to the late Moody and Arletta Hunter in Maysville, Georgia.
Though a man of few words, Eddie was always invested in those around him. He didn't sit and tell you the details of his day, instead he would ask about your day. Not a general, small talk question, but he would ask with purpose and follow up with a full conversation about how you were doing in life. His love was genuine and pure.
When he did speak, it was usually witty and funny. It might take you a second to catch on but when you got it, his words certainly brought a smile.
Eddie loved hunting, fishing, and a good western movie. He loved sharing those things with his son and grandkids. He encouraged a steady hand and patience as little hands sought to impress him every time. He enjoyed helping others pursue hobbies and learning the importance of happiness.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Faye Bonner and Polly Crane.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 30 years, Becky, son John Mark (Penny) Hunter, stepdaughter Christy Gibson, grandsons Max and James Hunter, sisters Shirley Whitlock, Patsy Minish, Becky Chestnut, Bonnie Parr, brothers David (Debra) and Major (Pam) Hunter and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026 at Ivie Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Franklin Downs and Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at Gordon Chapel Cemetery, Royston, GA. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026 at the funeral home.
