Jerry “Tommy” Thomas Smallwood, a beloved son, brother, father and grandfather passed away on May 21, 2026, in Homer, Georgia. Born on August 5, 1963, in Commerce, Georgia. Tommy was known as a jack of all trades. He was a mechanic, the owner of Smallwood’s Used Cars and later in life operated a rollback in the community.
Tommy was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. His loyalty to his family and friends was evident to all who knew him. Whether he was fixing something that seemed beyond repair or pulling out the flashlight he somehow always had close by, Tommy was the person everyone could count on for a helping hand or a good laugh. He was well known for his sense of humor and the pranks he always had up his sleeve, leaving behind countless stories and smiles that his family and friends will never forget.
He is survived by his son, Brandon (Dane) Smallwood; daughters, Tiffany (TJ) Pethel and Tori Smallwood; brothers, Tony Smallwood and Jody (Jessica) Seabolt; grandchildren, Emi Raye Pethel, Watson Pethel, Hendrix Daniels, Kingston Hulsey, Grayson Martin, Waylon Martin, Faith Martin and Denver Ivey; and nephews, Tyler (Haley) Smallwood and Eli (Taylor) Smallwood. Tommy’s legacy lives on through the family members who were fortunate to experience his kindness, humor and support.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Benson (Diane) Smallwood; mother, Vinnie Jo (Stanley) Brown; and grandchildren, Logan Pethel, Landon Pethel and Hudson Pethel.
A visitation to honor Tommy’s life will be held on May 30, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ivie Funeral Home. His funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Grey Hill Cemetery.
Though hearts are heavy at the loss of Tommy, comfort is found in the many memories and laughter he shared with those around him. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, the stories he told, and the way he was always willing to lend a hand whenever someone needed him. While he will be deeply missed by his family and friends, there is peace in knowing he is no longer suffering or in pain.
