Obituary

James Edmond Luker, a man remembered for his kindness, compassion, and dedicated service to his family and community, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Gainesville, GA. Born on April 3, 1931, in Mount Willing, AL, James lived a full and impactful life marked by service, both in his country and in his professional career.

James served honorably in the United States Army, a testament to his commitment to his nation. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career as an accountant at the Toccoa Steel Foundry, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His integrity and precision in his professional life were well matched by the kindness and care he showed to those around him.

A devoted member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, James’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and his interactions with others. He was known by his family as the most kind, caring, and compassionate man—a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

James was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Taylor Luker; his mother, Jennie Gladys Coker Luker; his first wife of 46 years, Lauretta Borders Luker; and his sister, Gladys Plunkett. 

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Luker; his son, John Luker; and his daughter, Theresa (Kevin) Denton. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jennifer (Tyler) Ebrite, Jessica (Chris) Rogero, and Joseph (Hailee) Denton. In addition, James is survived by one niece and three nephews, who remember him fondly and with great respect.

A memorial service to honor the life of James Edmond Luker will be held on March 24, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM at Ivie Funeral Home, located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, GA 30529. This gathering will provide friends and family the opportunity to come together, reflect on James’s life, and celebrate the enduring impact he had on so many.

James Edmond Luker’s life was one of quiet strength and unwavering devotion. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
