Herman Eugene Childers, born October 21, 1938, in Colbert, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, in his beloved hometown of Colbert. Herman’s journey through life was one marked by quiet dignity and steadfast presence within the community he cherished.

The son of Walter Childers and Onie Wade Childers, both of whom preceded him in death, Herman’s roots in Colbert ran deep. His upbringing in this close-knit town formed the foundation for a life built on values of integrity and kindness.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Beach, and her husband, Mark Beach; his caretaker, Melvin Elder; three grandchildren; several nieces and great nieces and nephews.

In his lifetime, Herman knew both the great happiness and the inevitable pains of life. Among those who went before him is his beloved son, Thomas "Tom" Childers, whose memory Herman held dear along with 13 older siblings.

Herman was 1st cook in the GA National Guard and was a man deeply rooted in his family traditions and in the community that shaped him. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his steady kindness and enduring strength.

A graveside service to honor and remember Herman Eugene Childers will be held on July 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Colbert City Cemetery, Shoal Creek Road, Colbert, GA 30628. Family, friends, and members of the community are welcome to gather at that time to pay their respects and to celebrate a life well lived.

Herman leaves behind a legacy of love, quiet strength, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
