Farris Milton Maddox

August 7, 1928 — August 3, 2025

Moneta, Virginia

Farris Milton Maddox, 96 of Moneta, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Tuesday, August 7, 1928 in Commerce, Ga., son of the late Hubert Harrison Maddox and Grace Benton Maddox. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Basil Guice and a grandson, Timothy Phillip Maddox. He was a Loss Prevention Consultant for Liberty Mutual, a member of Morgan's Baptist Church and the Moneta Lions Club. He is a Veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Maddox; sons, Patrick Mitchell Maddox (Manon), Phillip Malcolm Maddox (Jill), Farris Matthew "Rusty Maddox (Debra), and daughter, Katherine Mae Roll (Stephen); grandchildren, Harrison, Alexandra, Avery, Elizabeth, Benton, Christopher, Andrew, Christina and John Wayne; six precious great-grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Beatrice Guice.

To describe a legacy of nearly 97 years in a few sentences is a daunting if not impossible task. Farris filled many roles, each having a positive impact on current and future generations. Before he was a husband, he was an athlete, college graduate, built and ran a country store, served in the Korean war, and became a respected property consultant for Liberty Mutual. It was during this latter role that he met the love of his life, Patricia, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Farris continued on to become a beloved father, deacon, teacher, friend, grandfather, great grandfather and community servant. He never knew a stranger and loved to fix and build anything - nothing was impossible, nothing was too far gone that it couldn’t be repaired or repurposed.

He was renowned for his many skills and gifts - storytelling, slight of hand tricks, witty sayings, jokes, and simple drawings. All were used to entertain children and adults alike, and to impart important life lessons.

Farris’ strength and determination were unmatched, as was his ability to blame his kids when tools went missing. He loved to learn and he loved to teach, but most of all he loved God with his whole heart.

While his abilities and impact are noteworthy, Farris remained a humble man with a simple life rooted in knowing Christ and the sacrifice paid for him. He loved to share this Gospel in words and deeds, and he has entered heaven with a call of “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” He leaves a legacy worthy of emulating.
