Evelyn Scott Poe, a beloved matriarch and respected retired mail carrier, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in Commerce, GA, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on January 6, 1945, in Augusta, GA, she dedicated many years of her life to her work with The United States Postal Service in Commerce, where she became a familiar and cherished presence in the community.
Evelyn was a devoted member of Redeemed Baptist Church, where she found solace in her faith and fostered meaningful relationships with her fellow congregants. Her warm spirit and kindness were felt by all who had the privilege to know her.
Evelyn is survived by her loving son Clayton (Lori) Poe, daughters April (Chris) Davidson and Rebecca (Yamil) Fonseca, and her cherished brother Forrest Scott. She also leaves behind her brothers Clint Scott and her sister Mary Merrin, along with 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild who will carry on her legacy of love and the values she instilled in them.
Evelyn now joins her late husband Omer Allan Poe, along with her father Willie Scott, her mother Inez Turner Scott, and her brothers Ernie, Joseph, and Lewis Scott, her sister Susan Binick, and grandchildren, Elijah George Allan Poe, Matthew Allan Fonesca and Ethan Oliver Fonesca.
Evelyn's family will hold a visitation on June 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce. A funeral service in celebration of her life will take place on June 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Redeemed Baptist Church. She will be interred at Grey Hill Cemetery in Commerce. Evelyn will lie in state at 1:15 PM before the funeral service for all who wish to pay their respects.
She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
