Donie Elizabeth Driver, a beloved member of the Commerce community, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in hometown of Commerce Georgia. Born on April 13, 1934, Donie was the daughter of William Young and Elbertice Hix Barnett. A devoted wife, she married H. Walton Driver, Jr., and together they shared a life full of love and memories.
Donie's professional journey included a successful career as a bank employee with Citizen and Southern/Bank of America, where she was known for her exceptional service and dedication. Yet, it was her personal life that truly defined her. A cherished member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce, she found joy and purpose within her community. Donie would want to be remembered as a caring person, known for her kindness and compassion.
Her passions included singing, cooking, and engaging in yard work, pursuits that brought her immense pleasure and allowed her to share her talents and love with those around her. She fostered warmth and community through her culinary creations and was often found tending to her garden, a space where she found peace.
Donie is survived by her loving family, including her special nieces and nephews: Gary Barnett, Byron Trotter, Christina Crook, John Barnett, Russell Trotter, and Beth Rodgers, who held a special place in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her husband, H. Walton Driver, Jr., as well as her parents and siblings: Cornelia Louise Trotter, G. Marchetia Barnett, William S. Barnett, Raphael D. Barnett, and Beeman H. Barnett.
A visitation to honor Donie's life will be held on January 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Commerce First Baptist Church, located at 1345 South Elm Street, Commerce, GA 30529. Following the visitation, the funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM at the same location. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA.
As we remember Donie Elizabeth Driver, we celebrate a life filled with love, service, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
