Curtis Lamar Porter, a devoted family man, respected community member, and faithful servant, peacefully passed away on April 16, 2026, in Lula, Georgia. Born on March 28, 1934, in Buford, Georgia, Curtis lived a life marked by steadfast commitment to his work, faith, and loved ones. Surrounded by those who cherished him, he left this world leaving behind a legacy cherished by many.
Curtis devoted much of his life to his career as a technician with General Motors, from which he retired with honor. Beyond his technical expertise, he was a dedicated farmer, tending the land with the same care and responsibility that defined his character. His spiritual calling was a significant aspect of his life; as a licensed preacher, Curtis never turned down an opportunity to preach, sharing words of hope, faith, and love that inspired those fortunate to hear him.
A proud veteran, Curtis served his country in the US Army, bringing the discipline and dedication of his military service into every facet of his life.
Curtis was deeply rooted in the community he loved and was born into. He was preceded in death by his father, Freeman Holman Porter, and mother, Nellie Maude Puckett Porter. He also said farewell to his first wife of 41 years, Joycelyn Pugh Porter, and second wife, Lois Porter, his son Curtis Lamar Porter Jr., daughter Ira (Anthony) Jackson, brother Junior Porter, sister Doris Porter, grandson Queinton Smith, and great-grandchild, Zemirah Delaria.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Louena Titshaw, who stood by his side. He leaves behind two daughters, Kathy (Dennis) Smith and Laura (Tim) Ratterree, who carry forward his spirit and legacy with grace and sisters, Ruth Knight and Martha Pugh. Curtis’s life was further enriched by his grandchildren Gaybriel, Miranda, Rachel, Justin, Tabitha, and Audria, and a cherished circle of twelve great-grandchildren whose lives he touched profoundly. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation to honor and remember Curtis will be held on April 18, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce, Georgia. The funeral service will take place on April 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Buford, Georgia, followed immediately by interment at the church cemetery.
