Alford Quinton Childs, born on September 14, 1943, in Commerce, Georgia, passed away on August 18, 2026, in Nicholson, Georgia. His passing marks the conclusion of a long and meaningful life, one shaped by a deep love for family, enduring friendships, and steadfast character. Alford’s presence touched many throughout his eighty-three years, and the echoes of his caring, his wisdom, and his steadfastness will be held close by those he leaves behind.

Alford was the beloved son of the late Clarence Childs and Mildred Turner Childs, and he grew up surrounded by the enduring values of family and community in his birthplace of Commerce. He was also predeceased by his cherished spouse, Cora Mae Nix Childs, with whom he shared a loving partnership, as well as by his brothers, Jimmy Childs and Mac Childs, and his sons, Jerry Hollis and Joseph Hollis, Sr. Their memories undoubtedly continued to guide him throughout his life and offered him strength during times of sorrow.

He leaves behind a devoted family who will treasure his memory always. Alford is survived by his children: Keith Childs; Jerry Childs; Janice Sanders; David Hollis; Elaine Nix; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Hollis.

His role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys. The next generations, including grandsons Aron Hollis, Quinton Hollis, Joseph (Tracie) Hollis, Jr., and Justin (Peaches) Hollis, along with granddaughters Amanda (Brian) Craig, Carly Byrd, Jessica (Jerry) Wilder, and Kayla (Craig) Lankford, carry forward his legacy. Alford’s deep care for his grandchildren was evident in every moment spent guiding and uplifting them.

Among his immediate family, Alford is also mourned by his sisters, Shirley Jean Pledger and Joy Ervin, whose lives were enriched by countless shared memories and sibling bonds.

Alford led a meaningful and full life, marked not only by his commitment to family but also to his community. Born and raised in Commerce, and later residing in Nicholson, he remained deeply connected to the places that shaped his identity. Even as he experienced loss—the passing of his parents, his spouse, his brothers, and his beloved son—Alford retained a steadfastness that inspired those around him.
